Esther is one of the most remarkable women in the Bible.
Her story is recorded in the Book of Esther in the Old Testament.
She was a young Jewish woman who became the queen of Persia after King Ahasuerus (Xerxes I) chose her to replace Queen Vashti. Although Esther was an orphan, she was raised by her cousin Mordecai, who cared for her as his own daughter.
Esther had settled into her new life as queen and could have remained comfortable in the palace. However, her peace was interrupted when Haman, a wicked official, devised a plan to destroy all the Jews in the Persian Empire. This crisis placed Esther in a difficult position. She had to choose between protecting her own safety and standing up for her people.
Encouraged by Mordecai, Esther realised that her position as queen was not just a privilege but also a responsibility. Although approaching the king without an invitation could cost her life, she chose courage over fear. Her words, “If I perish, I perish,” reveal her faith, selflessness, and determination to do what was right.
I can relate to Esther’s experience because there are times in life when unexpected challenges arise and require us to make difficult decisions. Like Esther, I have learned that true courage is not the absence of fear but the willingness to do what is right despite the risks. Her story reminds me that God may place us in certain positions not only for our benefit but also so that we can make a positive difference in the lives of others.
Another lesson I learn from Esther is that every stage of life has a purpose. Mordecai told her, “Who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” This verse reminds me that where I am today is not by accident. The experiences I have had, the people I meet, and the opportunities before me may all be preparing me to fulfil God’s purpose.
Esther’s story inspires me to trust God, act with wisdom, and be courageous when faced with challenges. I want to live like Esther by being a person who stands for what is right, serves others, and believes that God can use ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things.
